  • i cant believe I made it over 120,000 - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport
    By -

I purchased this car brand new in August 2002. Still driving it. Have put a lot of highway miles. Things replaced, at 60K needed a new transmission. 70k needed a new a/c compresser. Changed brakes 2x. 2 fuel filters. The truck is not great on miles, but still runs. Yeah, the ride is bumpy but I plan to ride it to the ground. Hoping to get 150k on it. I did get better tires for it. Michel..LTX and that improved the ride. Very good with snow. If you own this car keep it. If you dont, I wouldnt go buy a new one. After 50K everything falls apart.

  • Not Happy at all! - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport

Ive owned my Explorer and ever since I had it I was unhappy with it. I had to replace the front end, brakes, shocks, tires since Ive owned it, most within the first year of purchase. The thing I hate the most is its unstability in snow, The vehicle takes off on its own without warning leaving you in the ditch even in 4wd. I just dont feel safe in this vehicle and I am looking for something better.

  • Fun While It Lasted - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

I bought this car as a daily driver with 110,000 miles on it. It was fun at first. Had no problems the first three weeks, then the problems began. I did a complete tune up to the vehicle and I was still only getting 11 MPG. After all the maintenance was up to date, the check engine light came on a day later. After a compression check I found out the valves were sticking and the heads needed to be replaced, an expensive fix. Then a day later the front wheels started shaking really bad and the rear differential was giving off a high pitched whine. After taking it to a mechanic I found out the 4 front balljoints and 2 A-arms had to be replaced. BUY WITH CAUTION.

  • Ford exploder? - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

Great truck amazing for winter! Very hard to get stuck hard corp truck off roading. Tight seating not good with kids perfect if your single. Dont trust the dealerships. I had no brakes or dash lights or muffler. O2 sensors are pricey and the truck is a gas pig for sure! But little fix on it had it a year and had to repair dealer goofs. Good by if weather turns fast.

  • Disappointed. - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

Im very disappointed with my Explorer. It handles terribly, even dangerously, and wants to veer off to the right and left when it hits potholes that for other cars that would be inconsequential. The interior also has a very cheap feel.

This is the roughest riding vehicle I have ever owned. Even minor road irregularities feel like major speed bumps which causes major sqweaks and rattles. If you are looking for a smooth quite ride, I would advise you to look else where. If you want a good looking truck and do not mind the harsh ride, this is could be your truck.

  • Too many Problems - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
    By -

I am the original owner and bought in March 2000. Only has 60,000 and had to rebuild transmission at 50,000. The key lock does not always unlock tailgate. Had the hood and top repainted (at Ford Dealer) three times due to acid rain (poor paint). My other cars not had the problem. Has many squeaks and noises. I have vehicle cleaned and waxed regularly and the back bumper is rusted. I would not buy a Ford again.

  • serious saftey concern with shock rod - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
    By -

I just bought a brandnew ford exporer from WESTWAY ford late saturday night in IRVING TEXAS. When we brought the explorer home that late night and then that early morning when we prssed the liftgate blue button on the remote the liftgate glass went up automaticly. And then the shock rod seperated from the glass fell resulting in it falling hard.Luckily no physical injuries. Addresed these concerns to FORD. People could seriously get injured , especially children. Also noticed defects in the rear left window.

  • Ford - Quality is Job One???? - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
    By -

Abosolutely pitiful build quality. The dashboard rattles and squeeks incessantly from no less than three different areas. And the center console makes a loud knocking noise while driving, the cheap plastic began cracking after less than two months on the road. Lets see...the overhead console dangles from the roof because only 2 of the four screws were actually installed at the factory; and my favorite - the doors are made out of recycled beer cans, I believe. When you close the doors you get a crashing metal-on-metal sound, not the nice solid "whoomp" that other new vehicles (that cost far less, btw) exhibit. The ride is terrible...wear your kidney belt.
